as endearing, motherly, soft, and cozy she is, 'batshit crazy' does fit her as a description.
all genius has to be at least a bit insane otherwise it's not genius.

So here we are at the greatest Kate Bush song never to be released as a single. Not that it would have done much on the charts or at radio – this is absolute batshit crazy, the most insane Kate ever sounded on record. There are a number of theories about what the subject matter of ‘Get Out Of My House’ is, with the most popular seeming to be that it’s about domestic abuse, ghosts or rape. Or possibly all three. With added donkey noises.

The thing you’ll notice about ‘Get Out Of My House’ upon first listen is the gigantic “HEE-HAW” mule sequence near the end, which stands as some of the strangest, most exciting, most dramatic, silliest performances to ever hit a pop album. There are very few artists out there doing donkey impressions on their landmark albums, and the only artist I can think of that has done anything similar is Yoko Ono, who was a clear inspiration for the vocal antics on ‘Get Out Of My House’.

I’ve always envisioned a video for ‘Get Out Of My House’, with Kate in a long, flowing dress running around a mansion trying to escape the Big Bad Something. All the different elements of the song would make for a great short film, the different voices, the disjointed sections, the constant, psychotic scream of the title that remains in the background of most of the verses. Indeed, it is widely considered to be inspired by The Shining, undoubtedly the film equivalent of this disturbing masterpiece. There’s the proclamation that this house is full of “m-m-m-madness”, the melodically beautiful but lyrically strange final section right before the donkey honkery. If you’ve never heard ‘Get Out Of My House’ before, you may want to sit down, and then prepare to spend a bit of time trying to process the intense, beautiful madness you’ve just experienced.
